Form 990 Filing Deadline for Calendar-Year Based Exempt Organizations
For those exempt organizations operating on a calendar-year basis, don’t forget that your Form 990 for 2020 (whichever version you are required to file) is due by May 17th. Not to be a downer, but also keep in mind that if you neglect to file for three consecutive years, then the IRS will automatically revoke your tax-exempt status. The good news is that for smaller nonprofit organizations, the Form 990 filing process is relatively quick and painless, especially for those organizations eligible to file Form 990-N (affectionately known as the ePostcard due to its simplicity).
